The Mets tried to initiate contract discussions with free-agent-to-be Jose Reyes last week, but Reyes’ camp told GM Sandy Alderson that Reyes does not want to talk pact during the season, perhaps increasing the likelihood that opposing teams will have a chance to show the shortstop the money.

One example of why Jose Reyes can be frustrating to watch: With the Mets clinging to a one-run lead in the 8th, Reyes booted a routine grounder by Atlanta’s Alex Gonzalez, allowing the tying run to score. One inning later, Eric Hinske homered off Francisco Rodriguez, who allowed two runs in the ninth, meaning that two of the Mets’ biggest stars doomed them to a 6-3 loss at Citi Field Friday.
