Ivan terrible as Yanks lose to Texas
There was an unmistakable October chill in the air last night in the Bronx, just in case Yankees fans didn’t experience enough flashbacks to the 2010 ALCS. Reigning AL MVP Josh Hamilton was lost earlier this week to a broken arm suffered in a home-plate collision, but the Rangers still showed enough resourcefulness and the same surprisingly tough pitching they used to knock the Yankees out of the playoffs last fall in a 5-3 victory at the Stadium.

Coffey: For composure, Ivan the Impressive
Ivan Nova won the second game of his nascent career Monday night. He did it with a tight, 83-pitch outing that lasted six innings and if it’s not a tape they will be sending to Cooperstown, it was nonetheless a serviceable effort. And he did it with a profound calm, as if his thin resume, and the daunting environs he works in, never occurred to him.

Ivan the Great! Rookie shuts down White Sox
Ivan Nova gave the Yankees’ ailing rotation another lift on Sunday, allowing one run in 5-2/3 innings and leading the Yankees to a 2-1 win over the White Sox. Nova allowed five hits and walked one, striking out 7 as he picked up his first big-league win.
