Lupica: Earl says it’s all about sacrifice

He brought his star with him to New York from Baltimore in another time in pro basketball and another time in professional sports in this country. He was Earl (The Pearl) Monroe, known as the Magic Man on playgrounds before Magic Johnson was even out of grade school. He was The Pearl and he couldn’t run very fast and couldn’t jump and couldn’t play the game above the rim.

Hurricane Earl storms through NYC area – but turns out to be washout

So much for Earl ruining the Labor Day weekend. The much-hyped storm went from stud to dud Friday and barely laid a mitt on New York, passing wide of the Hamptons and weakening fast as it barreled out into the Atlantic.
