Summitt, Krzyzewski win SI’s top award

Tennessee’s Pat Summitt and Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski are the 2011 Sports Illustrated Sportswoman and Sportsman of the Year, the magazine announced Monday.

The NCAA’s all-time winningest women’s and men’s basketball coaches join Muhammad Ali, Arthur Ashe, Derek Jeter, Michael Jordan, Billie Jean King, Jack Nicklaus, Bobby Orr and Pete Rozelle, who are some of the past recipients of the award.

Yanks’ Gardner walks off with weekly award

Brett Gardner sometimes doesn’t start for the Yankees, which is shocking to some (read: us). But he still knows how to make an impact on a game in which he’s riding pine at the first pitch. Witness last Thursday, when Gardner replaced Andruw Jones in left for the ninth inning and then got the second of his two hits in the 12th, knocking in the winning run against Texas in walk-off fashion.
