Ackerman bill could keep Wilpon in control of Mets
If Fred Wilpon and Saul Katz are going to retain control of the Mets, and their family’s fortune, their best hope may be legislation introduced last week by a New York congressman. Rep. Gary Ackerman’s bill would bar bankruptcy trustees such as Irving Picard from suing investors victimized by a Ponzi scheme unless the trustee could prove they participated in the scam.

Carter’s cancer is inoperable: family
The news keeps getting worse for Hall of Fame catcher and former Met Gary Carter. Family sources told the Daily News Tuesday that the 57-year-old Carter has Stage 4 brain cancer, and that his tumors are inoperable. The family is expected to release a statement later Tuesday.

High court rules out damage claim against Ashcroft (AP)
AP – The Supreme Court on Tuesday threw out damage claims against former Attorney General John Ashcroft over an American Muslim’s arrest, but four justices said the case raises serious questions about post-9/11 detentions under a federal law intended to make sure witnesses testify.
